Man arrested for stealing valuables from many passengers on Nanjing-Shanghai trains in past two months
A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing over 100,000 yuan (US$14,500) worth of belongings from passengers on trains running between Shanghai and Nanjing in the past two months, police said on Wednesday.
The suspect, a man in his 40s surnamed Li, has stolen from over 10 passengers riding the Shanghai-Nanjing high speed trains, eyeing valuable objects such as laptops, police said.
Investigation started after a passenger surnamed Liu reported loss of a backpack with his laptop and wallet inside on an evening train from Nanjing to Shanghai G7023 recently.
Li was arrested when arriving at Shanghai Railway Station on Tuesday.
Police said the suspect, an out-of-towner, had previous been a ticket scalper for many years around Shanghai Railway Station and had been detained several times for this.
