Man arrested over masseuse’s murder
A MAN has been arrested for the murder of a massage parlor worker who he is alleged to have said reminded him of his “materialistic” girlfriend, Songjiang District prosecutors said yesterday.
The suspect, surnamed Shi, is a native of east China’s Jiangsu Province who moved to Shanghai earlier this year in the hope of finding a higher paid job so he could support his girlfriend and their two children.
Prosecutors said the man had been reluctant to relocate, but felt under pressure to do so by his financially demanding partner.
After losing his job in Shanghai, however, Shi turned to drinking and gambling, and blamed his girlfriend for his ill fortune, they claimed.
To vent his frustration, last month he visited a massage parlor in Maogang Town, Songjiang, where he is alleged to have paid a woman for sex and later strangled her to death.
Prosecutors claim Shi said the woman reminded him of his girlfriend, as she was interested only in money.
He was detained by police on November 20 in his hometown of Yangzhou.
