Man arrested over murder of ex-wife鈥檚 mother

A man suspected of murdering his ex-wife’s 53-year-old mother has been arrested, prosecutors in Jiading District said yesterday.
The man, surnamed Chu, suspected that his ex-wife Cai, who married another man very soon after their divorce, betrayed him during their marriage and bore a grudge against her, said prosecutors.
On February 24, they claim, Chu went to his ex-wife’s home with vengeance in mind.
After he arrived, he only found her mother, surnamed Liu, but she refused to tell him Cai’s whereabouts, which irritated him, said prosecutors, who claim he then hit Liu several times in the head, choke her with a wire and then slashed her throat with a knife before putting her body under a bed and cleaning up the blood.
When he was about to leave, he encountered Cai’s husband coming in and ran away after injuring the man’s hand with the knife.
The husband then called local police and Chu confessed to the murder after being captured three days later, said prosecutors.
