Man charged with murder over debt
A CREDITOR who allegedly stabbed his debtor dead after failing to recover the money has been charged with murder, Shanghai prosecutors said today.
Wang Lei, a Zhejiang Province native, formed a software company in Shanghai after graduating from a university in southwest China, said officials from Shanghai No.2 Prosecutors Office.
He met the victim surnamed Jiang, who was engaged in the computer hardware business, online in 2004 and they became good friends.
Jiang asked to borrow 100,000 yuan (US$14,771) from Wang in February 2005, saying that his company needed capital to buy equipment. Wang agreed without hesitation.
However, Jiang not only didn't pay back the debt but continued to borrow more money with different excuses. In total, he owed 235,000 yuan to Wang, prosecutors said.
Jiang suggested in October 2005 that his company could merge with Wang's and Wang could take shares.
But Wang wanted the money, winning a lawsuit to recover the debt in October 2005. However, enforcing judges found Jiang had no property that could be used to pay the money.
