Man charged with rape

A MAN has been charged with rape and robbery after allegedly attacking a woman he picked up in a bar, prosecutors in Jing’an District said yesterday.
The suspect, identified as Xiaojun, offered to help the unnamed woman get home as she was under the influence of alcohol, prosecutors said. However, when the taxi arrived at her residential community, the woman declined to give Xiaojun her exact address, so he slapped her in the face. Once outside the vehicle, Xiaojun allegedly dragged the woman into a garden area and raped her, prosecutors said. He is also accused of stealing 600 yuan (US$98) in cash and two cellphones from her purse, they said.
