Man cooling off in Metro refuses to don shirt, gets into altercation

A SHIRTLESS man who went to a subway station yesterday evening to escape the city's heat wave got into an altercation with Metro staff after refusing to put on his shirt or stop sitting on a fire equipment box at the station.

He later claimed he had been beaten and was taken to a hospital.

The man, surnamed Shen, 56, entered to Anshan Xincun Station of Metro Line 8 to get cool.

Shen ignored the repeated warnings of Metro security officers and yelled at them, "I've got my shirt in my bag but I won't put it on."

The altercation interrupted passenger security checks at the scanning machine.

Shen later claimed he was not well and had been beaten by security staff. His family arrived and argued with the Metro staffers but were stopped by police.

Shen was sent to a hospital but was reported to be fine after an initial examination.

Police are investigating, and they asked residents who go to Metro stations to cool off to behave appropriately and not block the entrances and exits.
