Man detained for biting cop
A 40-year-old man who bit a police officer on the arm during a vehicle spot check has been detained for five months for disrupting the public order, Jing’an District People’s Court heard yesterday.
The unnamed man, who has a history of drug problems, became nervous as he approached the checkpoint in his car. Instead of stopping he tried to accelerate through it, but his way was blocked. When a police officer tried to apprehend him, the driver bit his arm. The sentence was the ninth of its kind handed down by the court this year, six of which involved migrant workers, and more than half involved people aged in their 20s or 30s, the court said. All of the victims were police officers, it said.
