Man detained for hitting Metro station worker

A man was detained for hitting a Metro station worker after he refused to cooperate in a routine security check, police said today.

The man’s backpack was scanned at Metro Line 3's Longcao Road Station on July 7; however, he lost his temper when a security guard wanted to look inside a plastic bag he was holding.

According to surveillance camera footage provided by the Metro operator, after exchanging words with guards, the man started pushing and kicking a guard.

The video clip showed the passenger lighting a cigarette and taking a picture of the guard who stepped forward to stop him.

Metro police arrived and took the man away and he was later handed an administrative detention.

According to Metro regulations, passengers who refuse to cooperate in security checks and cause public disorder can face a criminal detention depending on the severity of the case. Smoking is also strictly banned in the city’s subway network.
