Man detained on suspicion of slitting his father’s throat
A MAN was taken into custody yesterday on suspicion of killing his father following a family dispute, Huangpu District police said.
The 40-something man, surnamed Shi, is alleged to have used a kitchen knife to slit the throat of his septuagenarian father about 8pm on Wednesday, they said.
Police declined to elaborate on the incident, saying only that the older man died from a knife wound.
The suspected patricide is the second this week, police said.
On Tuesday morning, officers were dispatched to an apartment building in the Pudong New Area after receiving a call from a man surnamed Ma who claimed to have killed his 71-year-old father.
At Ma’s home police found the father lying on the floor in a puddle of blood. Medics arrived at the scene and pronounced him dead.
Neighbors told police they suspected Ma of suffering from a mental illness. Police said he has yet to be sent for a psychiatric assessment.
