Man 鈥榙uped 5 women out of 1.2m yuan鈥

A MAN has been arrested and accused of duping five women into giving him 1.2 million yuan (US$194,289), after stringing them along with promises of marriage.
Shanghai police said the 37-year-old suspect, surnamed Meng, had fathered children with two of the women.
Meng started a management company in Shanghai in 2010, but the business was said to be in financial difficulties.
He is said to have told police that he came up with his plan to con women while browsing matchmaking websites.
Police said Meng got to know one woman, surnamed Wang, through a website, claiming that he was a graduate of the Beijing Foreign Studies University.
They started dating in March 2011 and Wang soon became pregnant. Meng promised to marry her and they began living together.
According to police, Meng then claimed he had a project which had encountered cashflow problems and Wang lent him 320,000 yuan.
Their child was born in January 2012. However, Meng stalled on his marriage promise, and Wang never saw him again after last August, said police.
According to officers, during his relationship with Wang, Meng had been seeing another woman, surnamed Guo, who became pregnant in July 2011.
Meng allegedly conned 30,000 yuan from her. Guo became suspicious and alerted police.
Police said Meng had also duped another three women between 2011 and 2013, managing to get a total of 1.2 million yuan from the five.
