Man facing attempted murder rap after fight
A man accused of stabbing his wife and mother-in-law following a domestic dispute has been charged with attempted murder, prosecutors in Jiading District said yesterday.
The suspect, surnamed Qiu, attacked his wife, surnamed Zhang, as she was leaving their home for work last December, they said.
Qiu pulled Zhang from her electric bicycle and stabbed her several times, prosecutors said.
When the woman’s mother, who was not named, tried to intervene, the husband stabbed her too, they said.
Qiu allegedly then attempted to slit his own throat, but his mother-in-law wrestled the knife from him and threw it away.
Passersby got involved and the police were called, prosecutors said.
When questioned, Qiu is alleged to have told police that he didn’t know what had happened.
After carrying out an assessment they surmised he was suffering from a personality disorder, but prosecutors ruled that his condition was insufficient defense against the attempted murder charge.
