Man facing charges for extorting money from ex-boss
PUDONG District prosecutors today requested the arrest of a former employee of a local investment firm for extorting 2 million yuan (US$314,000) from his boss by threatening to disclose the company's trade secrets and the chat records of his boss's love affairs.
The suspect, surnamed Peng, allegedly copied trade secrets and online chat records when he worked as the company's IT specialist for four years ago until March.
Peng told prosecutors that he found his former boss, surnamed Wang, had an affair with the company's CFO when he was installing software for the CFO. He quit his job in March and decided to extort money from Wang.
In April, Wang received a parcel containing the chat records of his love affairs and paid Peng 40,000 yuan. But when Peng insisted on a payment of at least 2 million yuan, Wang reported to the police.
Peng was caught in his hometown in Sichuan Province on June 8.
