Man gets 7 years for killing daughter

A MAN who strangled his four-year-old daughter was sentenced to seven years in jail with a one-year deprivation of political rights, the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court announced yesterday.
Prosecutors told the court that Hu Zhengkui, 35, a migrant, could not sleep because of the cries of his daughter at night.
In March last year, he tied her up with tapes and used gauze masks.
When it didn’t help, he grabbed the daughter by the throat and suffocated her on the morning of April 3.
When Hu’s wife, surnamed Wang, found their daughter unconscious, she took her to a hospital where she was declared dead due to suffocation.
Police caught Hu after receiving a report from medical workers in the hospital.
The court gave him a lighter sentence because he made efforts to save his daughter when she was found unconscious.
