Man held after hijacking woman and her daughter near downtown kindergarten

POLICE arrested a man after he hijacked a mother and her daughter in front of a Shanghai kindergarten and robbed 9,000 yuan (US$1,372).

Police unveiled today that the 33-year-old mother, surnamed Zhou, just picked her daughter up from a kindergarten in Jing’an District on Monday afternoon, when a stranger suddenly got into the back seat of her car. The suspect, surnamed Yin, threatened them with a replica gun, and ordered Zhou to drive the car out of Shanghai.

They reached Kunshan in neighboring Jiangsu Province by 6pm where Zhou was ordered to withdraw all the 9,000 yuan from her bank card.

Zhou told police that when they reached Yancheng city at 10pm, she found a chance to get off the car with her daughter but could not find help. Yin then agreed to give the car back to Zhou but took away her cellphone.

Zhou drove the car away with her daughter and reached Yancheng long-distance bus station at midnight where she required a taxi driver to call police.

Yancheng police joined hands with Shanghai police, and their investigation  showed that the suspect took a bus the next day morning to his hometown in Jinan, Shandong Province. Yin was caught in Jinan at 11am on Wednesday and escorted to Shanghai. He told police that he bought the replica gun from an online store.
