Man held after locking up staff
A MAN who claimed he was owed money by a company locked 10 staff members in their office yesterday and threatened to set the office on fire.
The man, in his 30s, showed up with his wife at the company’s office on Huai’an Road in Jing’an District at 9:30am yesterday.
The couple claimed the company owed them money for two years.
After an hour of argument, the man locked up 10 workers in their office. He then poured what looked like a paint thinner at the entrance to the office and threatened to burn everybody to death, including himself.
Armed police arrived at the scene and convinced the man to unlock the door. The couple were taken away by police at 11:40am.
The trading company bought domestic goods which they sold overseas.
According to a worker, the man was a regular supplier to the company. He had been trying to recover his money since last year.
Police are investigating.
