Man held for killing grandson

A GRANDFATHER has been detained after stabbing his six-year-old grandson to death with a kitchen knife, police in the Pudong New Area said yesterday.
The boy’s father reported his son’s death to police after he got home at 6:39pm on Wednesday.
Police suspected the boy’s grandfather, surnamed Shi, who was missing.
Neighbors said Shi, who hails from Zhejiang Province, arrived in the city several months ago to look after his grandson as both of the parents were working. Witnesses said Shi suffered from senile dementia and had other mental problems.
He had previously injured others back in his hometown.
A surveillance video found that Shi left the complex about 3pm that day and never came back.
He was caught by police at 3am yesterday in Pudong. Police said Shi admitted killing the boy with a kitchen knife over a petty issue.
