Man held for killing his noisy roommate
A 25-year-old man has been arrested for stabbing to death his roommate for being too noisy, the Songjiang District prosecutors office said yesterday.
The man, surnamed Wan, worked as a chef at a local restaurant and lived with his colleagues in a dormitory provided by his employer.
On the night of January 5, Wan returned home from work about 2:30am. His roommate, surnamed Chen, was already in the dormitory, drinking and chatting with a friend, surnamed Lu.
When Wan asked the pair to be quiet so he could go to sleep the three men began arguing and a scuffle broke out. During the altercation, Wan grabbed a pair of scissors from a windowsill and stabbed Chen in the chest, prosecutors said.
The injured man was rushed to Songjiang District Central Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
When doctors told Wan that Chen’s life was in danger, he fled the hospital and checked in to a hotel using a friend’s ID card.
Songjiang police, however, soon located him and placed him under arrest.
