Man held for killing roommate

A MAN who allegedly killed his roommate has been arrested for murder, prosecutors in Putuo District said yesterday.
The man, surnamed Qian, allegedly slashed the victim’s throat because he believed the victim, surnamed Li, had scratched his cellphone, the prosecutors said.
On August 4, Qian left his cellphone in the room for charging but when he returned he found it had a scratch on the surface.
Since only Li, with whom he had a dispute earlier in the day, had a knife, Qian suspected him of deliberately damaging his cellphone.
Qian bought a knife from a shop and slashed Li’s throat the following night when his roommates were sleeping. Gao woke up and tried to stop him, but Qian stabbed him too.
Li was found dead at the scene. Qian surrendered to police and confessed to murder.
