Man held for stabbing daughter

POLICE in Songjiang District have detained a man for stabbing his 2-year-old daughter with a fruit knife following a quarrel with his wife.
The man, an Anhui Province native surnamed Sheng, quarreled with his wife over family matters on October 4 morning in their apartment in Zhujingbang Village in Jiuting Town.
In a fit of rage, Sheng stabbed his 2-year-old daughter three times with a knife and then tried to kill himself with the same knife.
Police and medical staff were called to the apartment at 11am — 20 minutes after the incident. The girl’s liver and kidney were damaged. She was in a state of shock after losing lot of blood when she was rushed to the hospital.
According to a doctor at the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, the most serious injury was when she was stabbed from the left with the knife piercing her kidney and liver.
It damaged the artery and vein of her splenic organ.
The stabbing also left a 6-centimeter cut on her stomach.
Police said both father and daughter were in stable condition. Sheng has been detained while his wife is also being investigated.
