Man held for using brother’s ID to fly
A MAN who used his brother’s entry permit to travel to Macau was yesterday sentenced to four months’ detention for human smuggling.
The Songjiang District People’s Court heard that the 62-year-old unemployed man, surnamed Zhu, used his sibling’s document on several occasions between June and October last year.
Zhu said in court that he used his brother’s entry permit for Hong Kong and Macau as his own was full of stamps and he didn’t want to pay for a new one.
He was detained after trying to fly to Macau — the court declined to name the departure airport — on October 8.
An official said Zhu, who already had a criminal record, could have faced a penalty of up to a year in prison.
As well as the detention, both Zhu’s and his brother’s travel permits were rescinded, the court said.
