Man held over dual stabbing

POLICE last night arrested a man who stabbed two sales assistants at a store in downtown Huangpu District.

The attacker, surnamed Cheng, entered the 61 Street Shopping Center on Nanjing Road E. at 10:30am yesterday. Soon after he began arguing with two salespeople over the 20 yuan (US$3.20) price tag on a jar of face cream.

As the dispute escalated, Cheng pulled out a knife and stabbed the salesman in the thigh, and his female colleague in the side. The two victims were taken to hospital, where they are said to be in stable condition.

Police apprehended the attacker last night as he sought to leave the city by train.
