Man held over kidnap

A MAN has been charged with kidnapping the 6-month-old daughter of a couple to whom he lost 17,000 yuan (US$2,700) in a card game, prosecutors in Baoshan District said yesterday. The suspect is alleged to have gone to the home of the child’s parents armed with a knife and intent on getting back his lost stake, they said. Neither the mother nor father were home, however, so the suspect grabbed the toddler, who was being cared for by her grandparents. The parents later agreed to pay the kidnapper 3,300 yuan for the child’s safe return.
