Man held over prostitute murder

A MAN was arrested yesterday over the murder of a prostitute in Qibao Town of Minhang District.

The suspect, surnamed Chen, is alleged to have strangled the woman during an argument about her fee.

Her body was discovered in a room on October 13.

Prosecutors said they have dealt with more than 10 cases in which prostitutes were murdered in the district since 2008.

Most of the women were killed in disputes over charges, robberies or during violent sex.

Others were killed by their pimps, prosecutors said.

In June, a 26-year-old man killed a prostitute at a hair salon and stole cash, bank cards and a cellphone.

The man, surnamed Pan, told prosecutors that he believed prostitutes were bad women and that he was removing evil from society.

Prosecutors said that many prostitutes are reluctant to inform police if they’re robbed or attacked as questioning might reveal their work.
