Man indicted for robbery after woman is killed
A 20-YEAR-OLD man who stabbed and killed a middle-aged woman during a theft was charged with robbery by Pudong New Area People’s Procuratorate, local prosecutors said yesterday.
The suspect, surnamed Wang, needed money to pay for treatment of a venereal disease, prosecutors said.
On June 25, Wang entered a new residential complex in Tang Town because many apartments were being decorated and the security door was open. Armed with a knife, he dressed as a delivery man and knocked on the door of Liu, the 55-year-old victim, prosecutors said.
Wang stabbed her in the chest when she screamed after he demanded money from her, according to prosecutors. After he killed Liu, Wang found a table knife and stabbed her again, prosecutors said.
Wang was caught in his rented residence in Zhangjiang Town the next day.
He said he dumped the knife and bloodstained clothes into a river and burned her purse and credit cards, prosecutors said.
Wang could be sentenced to death if convicted.
He was diagnosed with a STD after having several one-night stands, prosecutors said.
