Man jailed for forcing girl into prostitution

A MAN who forced a teenager into prostitution by abusing her and taking nude pictures of the girl has been jailed for six and a half years.

The accomplice of the man surnamed Zhang is still at large, according to the Jiading District People's Court.

The victim who was identified as Ping, 19, first met Zhang last July in their home town in Hunan Province and soon became good friends.

Later the duo met a man surnamed Li, also a Hunan native who had just returned from Shanghai. Li described the colorful city life and boasted he could help them find jobs in Shanghai.

Ping and Zhang, who didn't have good jobs, followed Li to the city in late July 2010.

Having arranged a rented apartment for the duo, Li suggested to Zhang an easy way to make money - let Ping become a prostitute.

Ping, however, refused the suggestion, so Zhang slapped her and threatened to kill her. The girl, still a minor at the time, was forced to agree.

Ping tried to run away on July 27, 2010, but was caught by the two men. Zhang beat her up again and sent her with Li to a hair saloon, which was a front for prostitution.

Ping tried to escape again on August 1 morning but was forced back by Zhang. This time Zhang took nude photos of her and threatened to post them online.

The girl managed to run to a nearby police station a few hours later when the two men were in a deep slumber. Police seized Zhang but Li escaped.

Zhang argued at the hearing that he was obliged to Li, so agreed to supervise the girl. Therefore he was just an accessory in the case.
