Man jailed for killing one with crossbow
A MAN who used a crossbow with poisonous needles to shoot stray dogs but ended up killing a passer-by was sentenced to two years and six months in jail yesterday for endangering public safety, the Jiading District People's Court ruled.
Prosecutors said Zhou Ming was shooting dogs when the victim, Qi Tian, happened to pass by on Jiajianzhi Road in July.
Qi picked up one of the needles lying on the ground and argued with Zhou for using them. During their tiff, the poisonous needle struck Qi in the head that proved fatal. The needle was found to contain succinylcholine.
Zhou called police and sent Qi to the hospital.
Zhou told prosecutors he used the crossbow to kill dogs in Baoshan and Jiading districts and in neighboring Jiangsu Province since March 2012. He killed over 10 dogs and sold the dead dogs to illegal meat dealers for profits, prosecutors said.
The court heard that Zhou did not reuse or pick up the poisonous needles after he missed, which posed a danger to society as others could have easily picked them up.
