Man jailed for pimping, kidnapping former lover
A LOCAL man who held his ex-girlfriend prisoner in a hotel room in Jiangsu Province and forced her to have sex with other men has been sentenced to 20 months in prison, Jiading District People’s Court said yesterday.
The man, surnamed Li, had previously lived with the woman, whose name was not released, for a year, but the couple split up last year as a result of their frequent fights, the court said.
In July last year, Li and four associates kidnapped the woman at knifepoint from her place of work in Shanghai. They then bundled her on to a motorbike and drove her to the hotel in Suzhou, Jiangsu.
Li then forced the woman to work as a bar girl in the hotel and on occasion she was made to provide sexual services to customers.
The woman was given a cellphone, but was closely watched whenever she used it, the court heard.
But on July 8, she managed to send a message via QQ to her boss in Shanghai, who alerted the police.
The woman was rescued from the hotel and with her help police were able to track down Li and detain him.
Li told police that he wanted to be with the woman but denied forcing her to do anything against her will. Security video footage, however, showed that he and his associates — whom he refused to identify — had kidnapped the woman.
Prosecutors said Li was known to police and had been detained in the past for drug-related offenses.
