Man jailed for selling shoddy contact lenses

A 60-year-old man was sentenced by the Baoshan District People's Court to eight months in jail and fined 40,000 yuan (US$6,448) for making and selling inferior tinted contact lens.
The convict, Zhang Changlong, bought a large number of contact lenses from Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province and tinted them at home. He then sold the counterfeits in new packages, earning more than 60,000 yuan between 2007 and 2012.
Police raided his home last July and seized 700 pairs of contact lenses. Optical tests showed all his lenses didn't meet the quality standards.
Color-tinted contact lenses are very popular among young women who wear them for stylish look.
