Man jailed for stealing money

A 55-YEAR-OLD man who dug out 480,000 yuan (US$78,288) from his neighbor’s garden was sentenced to six years in prison, the Chongming County People’s Court said yesterday.
Cai Zhen happened to see his neighbor Lu Tianqin bury a bucket in a vegetable field with her husband. He climbed over the wall on April 23 and dug the bucket out with a spade and found the money stashed in it. After stealing the money, he hid 420,000 yuan in his woodshed and kept the remaining 7,000 yuan in a dresser. He also paid off the debts to his uncle.
After Lu discovered that the money was gone, she suspected Cai of stealing it and confronted him.
Lu called police, who found the money in Cai’s house on May 2.
