Man jailed over hoax bomb threat
A young homeless man was sentenced to two years in jail for making a hoax terrorist threat after claiming to have planted explosives in Shanghai South Railway Station, Xuhui District People’s Court said yesterday.
On April 27, Liu got drunk with a friend, surnamed Chen, and told him he was going to make a bomb threat.
The 20-year-old called the police from a phone booth near the railway station and told them he had planted 100 kilograms of explosives and hung up.
The two then spent the night in an Internet cafe, returning to the railway station the next day morning.
Officers then reviewed surveillance footage and identified Liu and his friend as the possible culprits.
