Man ‘killed abusive father-in-law’
A MAN has been arrested for allegedly beating his 62-year-old father-in-law to death after enduring years of humiliation at his hands.
The 33-year-old, surnamed Wen, will be charged with intentional injury, the Jiading District People’s Procuratorate said yesterday. If found guilty, he could face between 10 years and life imprisonment or the death penalty.
Prosecutors said Wen lived with his wife in a house that his father-in-law, surnamed Wu, had bought the couple near his own in Jiading District
Wu had a bad temper and would interfere with the couple’s lives and humiliate Wen, prosecutors said.
Wen and his father-in-law frequently argued and sometimes this escalated into physical fights, according to prosecutors.
On May 2 this year, a dispute is said to have erupted when Wen made his displeasure clear when his father-in-law called to visit. Wu shouted abuse at Wen and said his son-in-law had no right to tell him to leave as he had bought the house, it is claimed.
Later, Wen’s wife heard her father cry for help and rushed downstairs to find Wen beating Wu, said prosecutors.
Wu was later found lying outside the house with severe abdominal pain. He died in hospital from a ruptured spleen the same day.
Wen handed himself in to police.
