Man killed in knife attack over dancing dispute

A man in his 70s stabbed a 58-year-old to death and wounded another over a dancing dispute on Tuesday night at a plaza in Minhang, district police said today.

Police said they have the assailant in custody as their investigation continues.

The suspect surnamed Yan was dancing in the plaza when someone accidentally stepped on his foot, according to police. Yan got into a heated argument with a man surnamed Zhao over the incident.

A fight soon broke out and Yan pulled a knife and stabbed Zhao, according to a witness and Zhao’s family. Yan also stabbed a man surnamed Song, who had stepped in to stop the fight, police said.

Zhao was pronounced dead at hospital.

Yan attempted to flee the scene but failed to hail a cab and was soon caught by police, according to officers.
