Man 鈥榢illed wife, kept her in freezer鈥

POLICE say a 29-year-old man murdered his wife in October and kept her body in a freezer, before surrendering after the suspect invited his parents around last Wednesday for a birthday celebration and told them what he had done.
An autopsy is underway to determine the time and cause of death.
The man, surnamed Zhu, said he had killed his 29-year-old wife, Yang, police said.
They said the incident followed a quarrel, but gave no further details.
The day after his arrest, a dozen of Yang’s angry relatives, including her parents, stormed into the modest downtown Shangye Yicun residential complex and burned funeral money downstairs at the building where Yang had lived.
The sign of the burnt yellow papers on the ground was still visible yesterday.
Yang’s last update on her Weibo account was October 16, when she “liked” a picture of a cat.
Her account shows the couple raising many pet animals, including cats, dogs, lizards, spiders and snakes.
Yang’s relatives said that Zhu had been covering up her absence, local media said, staying in touch with them on her social media accounts and through SMS messages on her phone.
Tao Zhigang, head of the residents’ committee, told Shanghai Daily that Zhu’s parents told him Yang, who worked as an elementary school teacher in Putuo District, resigned a few months ago because Zhu said he would soon resume his career in Hong Kong. Tao did not say what that career was.
“In the past three months, every time Zhu’s parents asked why their daughter-in-law was not at home, Zhu made up excuses,” Tao said.
He invited them around last week for what was supposed to be a 60th birthday celebration of Yang’s father.
“When they arrived, Zhu told them that he killed Yang and hid her body in the freezer,” Tao said. “Zhu was persuaded by his parents to surrender to the police.”
