Man knifed at Metro station
A MAN was stabbed to death at Lujiazui Station on Metro Line 2 yesterday, police said.
Two men, both in their 30s, quarrelled in the toilet at about 2:30pm.
One of them, who is surnamed Wu from Jiangsu Province, took out a 13-centimeter-long kitchen knife and stabbed the other person, surnamed Wang, who came from Anhui Province.
Wang was pronounced dead at the hospital, while Wu later surrendered to police.
Police said Wu got into the station without buying a ticket.
The incident triggered a heated discussion among netizens over the flaws in security checks at Metro stations.
“How can they let in a ticket evader so easily?” netizen “dukechan007” asked.
“How can a man carrying such a long knife walk into a Metro station? The security check is ridiculous!” netizen “changongzegui” wrote.
Meanwhile, a cellphone thief who escaped after running on the tracks on Tuesday was caught by police yesterday.
The suspect, surnamed Yu, tried to steal a phone from a passenger at the Lujiazui Station platform on Tuesday morning.
But he gave the phone back after the owner found it missing. As the Metro staff and police chased him he jumped on to the tracks and escaped. Train services were delayed for over 40 minutes.
