Man on drugs who kidnapped tot at knifepoint gets 63 months in jail

A MAN who kidnapped a 3-year-old boy at knifepoint during a drug-induced paranoid hallucination was sentenced to five years and three months in prison for kidnapping, the Pudong New Area People's Court said today.

The man kidnapping the child in order to force the boy's mother to call the police since he felt someone would hurt him in the hallucination, the court said.

The man, surnamed Li, 26, was driving with his wife on April 5 after taking an unspecified drug and had a hallucination that he was being followed.

After having a fight with his wife, Li parked the car at a crossroads in the Pudong New Area and got off to grab a kitchen knife from a street stall.

He smashed the windshield of a nearby car with the knife and kidnapped the boy, surnamed Wang, who was playing in front of a store.

Pointing the knife at the boy, Li asked Wang's mother to call the police and was nabbed by a patrolling cop.
