Man punished in bank card case
A MAN was sentenced to 22 months in jail for stealing over 20,000 yuan (US$3,222) from his landlord’s bank account with documents provided to him by the owner, Jiading District People’s Court said yesterday.
The man, surnamed Fan, was also ordered to return the stolen money to the victim, the court said.
According to the court, Fan contacted the house owner, surnamed Wei, to rent his house in June last year after seeing a post on a website. After Fan reached an agreement on rent, Wei gave Fan his bank card number and a copy of his identity card and told Fan to transfer the rent to his account. A month later, Wei found over 20,000 yuan missing from his account and the cellphone contact number had also been changed.
Fan told police he rightly guessed Wei’s password and forged a temporary identity card. He took the fake card to a bank and asked the clerk to change the cellphone number.
He then made five withdrawals of 15,000 yuan from the account and used 6,000 yuan for online shopping.
