Man says he found finger cot in cake
A LOCAL resident complained that he and his wife found a rubber finger cot in a piece of cake made by a time-honored bakery in the city, which has promised them a refund and 10 cakes as compensation.
The man, surnamed Xiao, said they first thought it was a condom when eating the cake last Tuesday, but it turned out to be a long finger cot, a type of protective sheath often used in sewing, the Shanghai Morning Post reported today.
“It was really disgusting,” Xiao said.
The cake was made by a subsidary of Ruby Foods on August 18.
Staff workers of Ruby Foods apologized and said they would take the cake back for a refund and compensate the couple with 10 cakes. But Xiao did not agree.
The company allows workers to wear finger cots after their fingers are hurt to avoid contamination, and a worker may have carelessly left it in the cake, Ruby Foods said.
