Man says he killed friend in self-defense
A MAN charged with killing his town fellow in a residential community in Putuo District last November told judges yesterday that it was self-defense.
Prosecutors were quick to tell Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court that defendant Ge Fengjiang, 37, had previously confessed to killing the victim during a fight in an elevator.
Ge, a Shandong Province native, told the court he hated the victim surnamed Song because he wanted to drive him out of Shanghai.
Ge and Song, 35, used to be good friends because they were from the same town in Shandong. Ge introduced Song to his boss, who managed a karaoke bar, early last year. Ge worked as the boss' bodyguard.
Song then tried to win the boss' trust, the defendant said.
Ge said Song not only spoke ill of him in front of the boss but also raped his mistress and forced her to take illegal drugs.
"I couldn't bear it any more so I found him at his rented apartment in Galaxia Century City on November 29," Ge testified.
However, prosecutors cited testimony by Ge's mistress, who denied having been forced to take drugs or being raped by Song.
Ge told the court he asked Song to talk on November 29 and that Song tried to stab him.
"To defend myself, I stabbed him. I was faster, so I ended up stabbing him first," the defendant told the court.
He said he was so nervous during the interrogation that he didn't tell the truth to police.
Prosecutors said Ge had planned to kill Song because he had stabbed him in the neck, head, chest and abdomen. They said the nature of the stab wounds showed it was not a self-defense case as the defendant claimed.
The verdict was not announced.
