Man, who tried to stop fight, blinded

A MAN was stabbed and blinded after trying to stop three men beating up a person in Pudong on September 15.

Wang Qi, a former soldier in his 40s, was rushed to Shanghai General Hospital, where doctors found he had damaged his eyeball, his wife Shen Weina told Shanghai Daily.

Shen said the incident happened after Wang tried to stop three men from beating up another man outside a Bank of Shanghai branch at the junction of Weifang Road and Century Avenue at around 8:40pm.

Since the incident, Shen posted a notice outside the entrance of Century Avenue metro station on Thursday, urging the man who was being beaten up, and other witnesses to come forward and contact her or the police.

But till yesterday she did not hear from anybody.

“My husband told me the first time he told them to stop, they warned him and told him to go away in an accent he said he could not understand.

“As he appealed again, two of them turned to him,” Shen said.

They chased Wang, who started running back to his neighborhood, Zhuyuan Xincun, which was just 300 meters away.

“My husband slipped and fell at the gate of our neighborhood. As he struggled to get up one of the men grabbed his stick umbrella and hit him on the head,” Shen said.

A security guard saw the incident and called the police, but the attackers fled before they arrived.
