Manicure chain probed for 鈥榤edicine鈥

HEALTH authorities are investigating a manicure chain in the city after it was found to be providing medical treatment services without a license and cheating customers, officials said yesterday.
Jiazhou manicure has 12 outlets in Shanghai and it been found to provide treatment for customers with diseases such as onychomycosis, a fungal nail infection, tinea manuum, a fungal hand infection, and paronychia, another nail disease.
The Shanghai Commission of Health and Family Planning has ordered Jiazhou to remove all posters and advertisements offering disease treatment and to stop selling disinfectant as medicine. The investigation is continuing.
The chain has also been accused of cheating patients by claiming its traditional Chinese medicine liquid can test for fungus, which was said to be useless by doctors of the Huashan Hospital.
In addition, the retail price of some disinfectant products sold at the shops was more than five times the supply cost.
