Marriage agencies to recruit more men
SHANGHAI matrimonial agencies will for the first time recruit 100 college graduates, including men, as matchmakers - an industry regulator said yesterday.
The recruitment, which will take place at the end of the year, aims to introduce young talent into the industry, instead of the middle-aged women that dominate the sector, said Jiang Mingde from the Matrimonial Institution Management Association.
The recruitment of graduates, especially young men, would cater to the needs of a rising number of young white-collar workers who, Jiang said, psychologically prefer male matchmakers.
These so-called "red gentlemen" - female matchmakers are known as "red ladies" in Chinese - have a higher success ratio, but currently comprise less than 10 percent of matchmakers in the industry, according to Jiang.
