Massive lottery win for Anhui man


AN Anhui Province man who is working in Shanghai has won a 15.45-million-yuan (US$2.26 million) lottery prize, the biggest prize this year, the Shanghai Welfare Lottery Center said yesterday.

The winning numbers were announced on Sunday night. Among the 28 prize winners in the country, six came from Shanghai, Oriental Morning Post reported today.

Each prize is worth 5.15 million yuan. The Anhui man won three prizes, which jackpotted to 15.45 million yuan. The winning ticket was purchased at an outlet on Lishan Road, Putuo District.

The center said the winner has worked in the city for many years and is not rich. He likes study the lottery and always buys lottery tickets. But he had never won a prize before.

The winner claimed the prize yesterday and donated 100,000 yuan to the Civil Affairs Bureau to help disabled people.

He didn't say how he was going to spend the money.

The other prize winning tickets were sold at outlets on Nanda Road, Baoshan District, Changshou Road, Putuo District and Hongmei Road in Minhang District.

Because the lottery prizes this time were worth 238 million yuan, there is only 38.67 million yuan left in the prize pool. China Welfare Lottery Center will add 30 million yuan into the pool for next draw.

Winners have 60 days to claim their prizes after July 1.
