Men found with drugs on bus get 15 years
TWO men were given 15 years in prison yesterday for transporting 790 grams of methamphetamine from their native province of Guangdong in south China to Shanghai by long-distance bus.
The convicts, surnamed Jiang and Zeng, were tried in separate cases at the Shanghai No.1 Intermediate People's Court yesterday.
Jiang told the court he transported the drugs for drug dealers because he wanted to earn 5,000 yuan (US$801) to pay his son's tuition.
He took a bus from Shenzhen to Shanghai on August 31 and was captured by Shanghai police during a routine road check.
Zeng also was nabbed at a checkpoint on the Shanghai section of a highway from Kunming. He said he carried the drugs on a bus from Humen for quick money.
