Metro station art display
SEVEN reproductions of artworks held by the British Museum are being displayed at South Shaanxi Road Metro station until the end of the month.
The works represent icons of the museum’s collection, and are meant to bring a dose of cosmopolitan culture to commuters and other train passengers.
An image from the ancient Egyptian papyrus “Book of Emerging Forth into the Light” is displayed in the station hall. Beside it is “Lewis Chessman,” chess piece made in Norway sometime between 1150 and 1200.
A limited addition Metro card commemorating the display will be released by the end of the month.
Meanwhile, in honor of the World Cup, Xujiahui Metro Station is hosting an installation artwork made of beer cans as well as oil paintings of football fans from all over the world.
