Minhang greenbelt project approved

A GIANT greenbelt project that incorporates a riverside park, a ferry station and a facelift of nearby facilities in the Jiangchuan area in Minhang District is expected to be completed by 2015, authorities said yesterday.

The riverside park along the Huangpu River will border Humin Road in the east, Lanping Road in the west and Jianshe Road in the north. On the south, it will face the river. An underground parking space will make room for 100 vehicles to supplement the shortage of space in the area. The park covers about 37,000 square meters.

The current Minhang ferry station on Pujiang Road will be moved to southeast at the intersection of Lanping and Pujiang roads. It is designed to have a passenger volume of about 30,000 people per day and its location, which will be near a public transit hub, will provide more convenience for passengers.

The flood prevention facilities at Minpu Bridge will also be improved as part of the project.

The Pujiang Road will also get a facelift with its sewerage system, greenery, barrier-free facilities and lights updated.

Construction on the project is expected to start as early as March 2014, officials said yesterday.
