Minhang residents get 鈥榟ome away from home鈥
MINHANG District plans to build 100 innovative “neighborhood centers” for seniors and children while offering other cultural, educational and public services, the head of the district said yesterday.
Each center will be based in a separate building to offer over 100 varieties of public services for residents living within a kilometer in the one of the most populous suburban districts, Ni Yaoming, director of Minhang, said in a radio interview.
Traditional Chinese Medicine doctors will provide treatment and give lectures. Community canteens, libraries and caring beds for seniors will be included in the centers.
Events for hobbies such as dancing, painting and calligraphy will be held regularly and children can play together when their parents have to work, or with the parents on weekends.
“We’d like to make the centers be able to solve all kinds of daily problems for the residents in the area,” Ni said.
The centers open daily from 9am to 7:30pm except Sunday. Social organizations and non-profit groups can base in the centers to offer services such as job placement.
The district government has built 37 such centers across Minhang in a trial operation and the number will be increased to 100 to cover all residents by 2020, said Ni. About 25 new centers will be built by the end of the year.
