Missing TV manual for sale on Net is not quite what it seems
A MISSING production manual for the "China's Got Talent" series that has been offered for sale on the Internet is probably not the real thing, city-based Dragon TV officials said yesterday.
On Tuesday, the Internet mailbox of "China's Got Talent," the authorized Chinese version of "Britain's Got Talent," was emptied, with the loss of 900 e-mails about the program's running schedules, plans, contestants' resumes, and the production manual of the series. The manual was bought from Fremantle Media and is valued at about US$400,000.
An Internet user with the ID "Manual Looking for its New Owner" said on Tianya.com that he had most of the confidential documents. If someone wanted the manual, it would cost 100,000 yuan (US$14,700).
Also posted, in a bid to gain potential buyers' trust, were the schedules and background information of one of the show's elimination rounds in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.
But, according to Dragon TV's Lu Wei, the company had checked all the information and found that, with the exception of the date and venue of the elimination rounds in Shenzhen, all the details were inaccurate.
"It is not hard to know the date and venue of the elimination rounds in Shenzhen since we released that to the media," Lu said. "We believe that the Netizen's sense of adventure and mischief prompted him to do this after knowing what happened to our mailbox from news reports."
Dragon TV is seeking the IP address of the person who accessed their mailbox.
Lu said: "We now have evidence to show that the invader just emptied the mailbox.
"There is no record that he downloaded these e-mails. So we have reason to believe that he only wanted to play tricks on us," he added.
