Missing boys found 1,212km from home
THREE boys who went missing at the weekend have been found in the southern city of Guangzhou — apparently having gone to find jobs to pay for online games.
The boys from Huaqiao Primary School, 11-year-old Zhou Ailei, Wu Kangbiao, 13, and Ji Lei, also 13, are returning to Shanghai today, police said.
They bought train tickets for the 1,212 kilometer journey to Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, using cash withdrawn from a parent’s bank account.
The boys’ parents alerted police after their sons — who are described as spending a lot of time playing online games — didn’t return home on Saturday.
Songjiang District police posted a notice with the boys’ pictures on their microblog on Sunday afternoon.
The police posting was forwarded hundreds of times within hours and soon brought a lead.
A Guangzhou resident recognized the boys, asked one for his parents’ phone number and alerted them.
The boys’ teachers and classmates said they had mentioned working in Guangdong to get money to buy virtual items for games.
