Missing local boys went to Guangzhou to earn money for online games
THREE local primary school boys reported missing on Sunday were found in Guangzhou in Guangdong Province and said they went there for a job so that they could earn money to buy virtual items in online games, police said today.
The boys from Huaqiao Primary School — Zhou Ailei, 11; Wu Kangbiao, 13, and Ji Lei, 13 — are on their way back to their parents, police said.
Songjiang Police posted a notice with the boys' pictures on their microblog Sunday afternoon after being informed they were missing. The three pupils' parents said their children, who are addicted to online games, hadn't been back since they went out on Saturday.
Guangzhou is 1,212 kilometers from Shanghai.
The posting was forwarded hundreds of times within several hours and attracted public attention.
A resident in Guangzhou, who saw the boys and asked one of them for his parents' phone number, called the boy's parents yesterday morning and told them the three boys' location. The parents contacted a friend in Guangdong Province immediately and asked him to meet the boys.
The parents then bought airline tickets for the children to return.
The boys' teachers and classmates said the three often play online games together and once mentioned their thought of working in Guangdong Province to get money for virtual items on games.
The three are on their way to Shanghai today and will arrive tomorrow, police said.
