Mom held over death of newborn

A 21-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of killing her newborn child and leaving his body in a dumpster, prosecutors in Songjiang District said yesterday.
Police were alerted to the case on April 12 when a sanitation worker at a residential complex in Songjiang reported finding the infant’s corpse in a bin bag.
Several knife wounds were found on the child’s body, prosecutors said.
By searching through other items in the bag, police were able to identify a woman they believed to be the child’s mother, surnamed Yue.
In a subsequent interview, Yue allegedly told police she gave birth to the baby on April 11. As she didn’t know who the father was, and out of fear she would be ostracized by her family, she killed the infant by slashing its throat, prosecutors said.
